Here's why you should have a humanist ceremony in Yorkshire...: Image 1 Couples who have a humanist ceremony are almost four times less likely to divorce compared to other types of marriages, according to new statistics on marriage and divorce data in Scotland – a country where, unlike England, humanist ceremonies are legally recognised.

Leeds-based Humanists UK celebrant Lisa Bourne welcomed the new findings. “I'm not surprised given how personal humanist ceremonies are and their growing popularity in Yorkshire,” she says. This coincides with another poll by YouGov, which shows that nearly 70% of the British public support legal recognition being extended to England and Wales. “The couples I work with are frustrated that their nuptials are not legal,” says Lisa. “However, they're committed to having a ceremony that is based on their values and beliefs, led by a celebrant they've formed a relationship with. The amount of thought that goes into a personalised ceremony reflects the work that couples put into their marriage.”
