What can you expect?
Situated in the Dales, this impressive Medieval castle overlooks the Wensleydale Hills. Found in beautiful gardens, there are plenty of picture-perfect spots including a maze and flower arches. There's real wow factor as guests enter through the portcullis into the cobbled courtyard and the view from the battlements is truly breathtaking. Inside, the castle has been protected to show how it would have looked when it was a luxurious Medieval home, complete with working fireplaces and spiral staircases. Guests will also love seeing the armoury and dungeon.

Time to celebrate!
There are many areas to explore and rooms to suit up to 120 day guests and 200 evening guests. The Old Kitchen (up to 70 guests) is a popular space for smaller weddings or reception drinks with its beams and working fireplaces. Once Mary Queen of Scots' day room, the light and airy Solar (120 guests) is where most ceremonies are held. The Great Chamber can seat up to 120 guests for a meal, and is a brilliant party space for 200 friends and family in the evening. Couples will be glad to know the venue is available the day before the wedding for stress-free set-up. They'll also receive a free menu tasting.

We love...
The resident birds of prey can provide a falconry display or even deliver the wedding rings.

Married to your surname? 26% of women are planning on keeping theirs

Lots of people are ditching traditions when it comes to modern weddings and marriage - one of which quickly losing favour is the tradition of taking your partner's surname. In a recent survey carried out by Pandora UK, almost nine in ten (88%) women said they think that attitudes to married names are changing in 2026 ¹. When asked, over a quarter (26%) of unmarried women said they'd keep their last name if they got married, whilst less than half (45%) said they'd take their partner's name. This is indicative of the shift in opinion in recent years, as when married women were asked, only a sixth (17%) of women said they kept their maiden names when they got married, whilst the majority (78%) took their partner's surname, with just 4% choosing to double-barrel their last name with their significant other.
