We ask Yorkshire wedding photographer Charlotte Clemie Photography why you should have an engagement shoot...
While it's certainly not essential to have an engagement shoot, if you're particularly anxious about having your picture taken, then it's a great way to get over the nerves and give you one less thing to worry about on the day. These shoots are a chance for us to talk through a few poses for the wedding and for you to see how I work and how quickly I can put you at ease in front of the lens.
Many newlyweds-to-be use their shots on their save-the-date cards or on their wedding website, which is exactly what the couple pictured did. Believe it or not the groom was very anxious beforehand. However, you can see how relaxed and natural he is in these images.
If you choose not to have an engagement shoot, then when it comes to the big day try not to overthink it. Time will fly by so quickly and often your couple shots are the only chance to get away from the madness for a little quiet time! This is why it's important to not only choose a professional because you like their style, but also because you get a good feeling about them as a person.
For an image to look natural you need to connect with your photographer as they guide you through poses that suit you both. My clients often come back to me and say that the couple shots were one of their favourite parts of the day. Always remember that often the most dreamy-looking pictures are in fact the most staged, so trust your chosen expert and you'll have photos to cherish forever.
