Yorkshire couples are quicker to tie the knot than those in Lancashire. According to leading North West hospitality group James' Places.
Yorkshire couples allow less time between booking and the big day than those at the company's Lancashire venues.
Heidi Kettle, marketing manager for the company, which owns Falcon Manor at Settle and the Shireburn Arms at Hurst Green, near Clitheroe says: "We have noticed a definite cross-Pennine trend. The average length of an engagement for couples getting married at The Shireburn Arms is 12 to 18 months, but at Falcon Manor it's nine to 12 months. We also host weddings at Mitton Hall, Mitton, near Whalley, Holmes Mill in Clitheroe and at Eaves Hall, West Bradford, which is near Clitheroe and these venues follow the Lancashire trend too.
"There's no obvious reason why Yorkshire couples might be keener to get hitched. Our dream makers - the dedicated wedding planners based at each of our hotels - advise that the perfect day can easily be organised in anything from six to eight months upwards. The main consideration is the availability of the venue and registrar or church."
The UK average length of engagement is 20 months and wedding days are on average 4.9 years after the couple's first date. Heidi said, "Many couples like to give themselves plenty of time, maybe to save up for their big day or to give friends and relations plenty of notice. However, shorter timescales work well if a couple gets engaged at, say, Christmas, and wants to be married before the year is out. It could also be the Harry and Meghan factor - they were married six months after announcing their engagement."
Dream makers are always on hand at either venue to discuss making your dream wedding a reality, whatever timeframe you're working to.
