Simply Devine does it again!  The destination hat shop is a finalist in the Nation’s Wedding Awards 2023 – formerly the English Wedding Awards and The Great British Wedding Awards - in which the Tadcaster hat shop has previously won awards since 2017 with its collection of hats, fascinators and hatinators for weddings, race days, garden parties and special occasions. This year the shop is a finalist in the Specialist Supplier of the Year category.

Liz Devine-Wright, owner of the shop, of York Road, Tadcaster, has run the designer-led hat shop for the past 20 years.

Said Liz: “It is always such an honour to be a finalist in professional awards.  Our customers have nominated and voted for us, which means we are doing something which is appreciated by them.  Our headwear has graced heads at events all over the world – from Africa to Australia to America, as well as here in the UK. It is always our aim to ensure that every customer who comes into the shop looks and feels a million dollars on their special day."

The Nation’s Wedding Awards 2023 are a celebration of the wedding professionals throughout the UK. Following the overwhelming response from the public and the phenomenal number of nominations received, the full list with finalists from across the nation has now been revealed.

The glamorous awards, organised by Oceanic Media, will take place on Wednesday 1st November at Manchester Mercure Piccadilly Hotel and will celebrate professionals who have gone above and beyond and made a real difference in the industry with their excellent services. Liz Devine-Wright will be at the event with members of the Simply Devine team.

The event seeks to acknowledge and honour the talented individuals, teams and businesses, whose sole aim is to provide couples and their families with the most magical memories and a wedding day to remember.

Top celebrants, hairstylists, florists, photographers, and industry professionals will gather to celebrate their achievements. The black-tie ceremony promises to be one of the most memorable celebrations in the industry’s calendar this year.

A spokesperson for The Nation’s Wedding Awards 2023 said: “We would like to thank the public for their participation in our nomination process. The Wedding Awards have become a staple event over the years and aim to showcase those who have shown great commitment, professionalism, creativity, and care for their clients. We hope to provide a platform to thank and appreciate the work of the professionals who have pushed the boundaries in a difficult time and had the continuous support of their customers."

Women want a personal engagement ring not an expensive one

New research suggests a shift in how women approach one of the most traditional luxury jewellery purchases, with 75% saying they want an engagement ring to prioritise personal meaning over size or value. A study of 1,353 UK women carried out by 77 Diamonds* found that 75% say they would prioritise a personalised engagement ring over a larger or more expensive diamond. What seems to stand out is not a complete rejection of convention, but rather a rebalancing and reassessment of value. 59% of women say their preference still leans towards traditional ready-made ring designs, and only 11% want an entirely custom-made piece But the emotional drive behind preferences and purchasing decisions does appear to be changing with 30% expressing a desire for rings that carry additional meaning through small modifications, engravings or design adjustments.

One in seven couples choose sleep over sex on their wedding night

As the UK's spring and summer wedding season begins, new research by Mattress Online suggests the traditional idea of a passion-filled wedding night doesn't always match reality, with one in six couples (15%) saying they did not have sex after their big day. To understand why, the bed experts also asked survey respondents what their reasoning was behind this. They also provided additional insight on the idea of the "wedding night" from Relationship Expert, Jenni Trent Hughes. The findings show that exhaustion was by far the most common factor, with more than two in five (44%) of couples saying they were simply too tired after the celebrations.
