Wedding fragrance suggestions

Floral, citrus, or woody - and everything in between - wedding scents are becoming more popular as couples incorporate them into their day. They can provide an ideal way to remember the occasion, the trigger of a special memory when you come across that fragrance connected to it. What's more, key scents can also help control emotions according to psychologists.

Yasmin Sharp, essential oils expert at Nikura, says, "With more than 12 million hashtag views on TikTok, wedding scents (#weddingscent) are becoming more and more popular for UK couples who are looking to add a unique element to their big day. There are many ways to incorporate scent into your wedding, including crafting candles, soaps, wax melts, diffusers, rollerballs, potpourri, and even scented paper for invitations and stationery (such as menus, order of service, and place cards)".

According to neuromarketing specialist Katie Hart, the link between scent and memories is strong, "Our experiences of smells, feelings and memories are highly connected. Due to the intense proximity and connections which exist between the areas that process smells, emotions, and memories, we build up a complex range of associations with the smells we encounter. Many of the positive associations we have with smells are not produced directly by the scent itself, but by the experiences we have had and connect with it. So, scents have tremendous opportunity to affect our emotions and trigger (consciously or otherwise) memories from many years ago".

Yasmin recommends incorporating the following scents...
For spring/summer weddings: Jasmine, Nag Champa, Sunny Garden, Lemon, Bergamot, Orange, Grapefruit, French Lavender, Geranium, Fresh Linen Floral, Damson Jam, Elderflower, Citrus Relief blend, Floral Relief blend

For autumn/winter weddings: Cardamom and Cedar Blossom, Cosy Fireplace, Sandalwood & Vanilla, Patchouli, Cedarwood, Ylang Ylang, Cinnamon, Clove, Orange, Baked Cinnamon Bun, Apple and Cinnamon, Frosted Wonderland, Mulled Cider

According to Katie, scent can also impact our emotions, "lavender and quite 'flowery' scents are commonly found to reduce anxiety and increase relaxation and serenity. 'Citrus' scents are often associated with making us feel energised, boosted, and refreshed. Whilst 'woody' scents can help us to feel balanced, calm, and grounded".
