Like so many wedding businesses, cake designer Sweet Chic felt the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, but owner Helen Birkinshaw was determined to adapt to keep her business alive. "During the first lockdown we started offering personalised iced cookies and chocolate treats," Helen explains. "There were some beautiful messages of love leaving Sweet Chic HQ."

As more couples were having to postpone their big days, Helen decided it was time to take a risk and launch something totally new. "I teamed up with like-minded small local businesses, who create handmade items, to set up the York Hamper Company," she explains. "We offer luxury hampers and gifts with a passion for all things handmade and local. I'm both terrified and elated to be starting something new in such uncertain times, but I believe we're stronger together and we must diversify to continue doing what we love."

The York Hamper Company will soon develop a wedding range, including Sweet Chic bridesmaid proposal boxes, gifts for the bridal party and treats for the night before the wedding.
