January/February 2021

Well, 2020 was a year we won’t forget in a hurry! I know we’re not out of the woods, but I feel like as we wake up to a new year, blinking into the January light, there’s renewed hope and excitement for the future. I bought myself two new outfits for weddings I had in the diary last year, which have been left hanging in the wardrobe, and I’m quietly confident I’ll get to pull them out in 2021!

So how are you finding wedding planning during a pandemic? I know it’s been a tough ride, but I hope the fact that Your Yorkshire Wedding has been here, celebrating the best of the local wedding industry, has helped. We will always bang the drum for local indie businesses; they’ve weathered the storm and supported their couples throughout, now’s the time to support them in return.

For those of you who are newly engaged over the festive period and Valentine’s Day – congratulations and welcome! We’ve got an epic issue for you, including expert advice for those whose plans have changed dramatically (page 51), a round-up of beautiful venues in and around Leeds and Bradford (page 21) and an introduction to the people behind the area’s best bridal boutiques (page 64). We love to showcase reader weddings (from page 26), so get in touch if you’d like to see yours featured!

Crathorne Hall Hotel

Crathorne Hall is a stunning stately home located close to Yarm. Perched on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors, it commands incredible views over the Leven valley. The estate’s sweeping driveway leads to this idyllic traditional building, which dates back to 1906. Its tower bells and exquisite stonemasonry showcases its grandeur, and creates an enchanting spot for visitors to marvel at the views.

The interior has been sympathetically restored with a mix of classic and contemporary furnishings and boasts high ceilings, decadent chandeliers, intricate cornicing and marble fireplaces. Crathorne Hall was built for celebrating, and visitors here are walking in the footsteps of prime ministers, royalty, actors and musicians.

Guests can stay in one of the hotel’s 37 individually designed bedrooms; 17 of which have been fully renovated as part of a £4m restoration of the East Wing.

Couples can tie the knot in two spaces. The Presidents Lounge (up to 40 guests) is ideal for intimate gatherings with its firstfloor location and Juliet balcony offering far-reaching views. The Edwardian Room (90 guests) is a lighter, bigger option boasting original features.

Post-vow celebrations can take place in The Drawing Room (120 guests), which is at the heart of the house. Guests will enjoy the impressive high ceiling and historic features before taking a break from dancing to step outside for drinks or late-night snacks. Smaller receptions are held in the Edwardian Room with its private bar and access to the gardens.
