May/June 2021

Looks like we made it! At the time of writing, we’re heading towards the summer of love, and I am ecstatic: sunshine, laughter, friends, family and WEDDINGS are just what we need right now.

I hope all of you who have had to deal with the stress and upset of rearranging your wedding are soon able to have your dream day – goodness knows you deserve it! And I hope that every hug is a little tighter, every dance move is executed with more pizzazz and every moment is full of joy.

As always, we’re bringing you the absolute best of the Yorkshire wedding industry this issue. Every florist (page 48), caterer (page 52), boutique owner (page 84) and venue (page 15) over these pages has had to diversify and show extraordinary resilience during the pandemic, and they can finally get back to doing what they do best: creating the most epic weddings imaginable for you lovely lot!

The Grand Lodge at Oaklands

In the heart of rural East Yorkshire is The Grand Lodge at Oaklands. Found within 200 acres of beautiful woodland, beside a picturesque lake, it provides the most tranquil big-day setting. Crafted from locally sourced materials, The Grand Lodge, together with the outdoor and indoor ceremony areas, blend in delightfully with their natural surroundings. Inside, the decor is a mix of rustic charm with luxury elements, from jewel colours on the mezzanine floor to stylish lighting and abundant greenery.

The Pavilion (170 guests) is a versatile outdoor ceremony space, which benefits from lakeside views. Bursting with character, The Lakeside Lodge (150 guests) is a great indoor option if the weather is not kind. The breathtaking Grand Lodge (200 guests) is the perfect postvow celebration setting, where family and friends can gather under twinkling chandeliers and relax at the stylish bar in this rustic-luxe space.

Meet Sylvia, founder of eco-friendly wedding flower alternative Ecoblooms

We caught up with the lovely Sylvia, who is the founder of Yorkshire-based Ecoblooms – a company specialising in eco-friendly wedding flower alternatives that you can keep and treasure as a keepsake of your big day! "I'm Sylvia, founder of Ecoblooms and I create unique, handmade, everlasting flowers from donated plastic bottles. Although faux flowers aren't anything new and there are so many fabulous options out there – there isn't anyone out there creating them from plastic bottles with the variety that I do."

Retreat to the city at The Marylebone, London

As the country prepared for Lockdown Part II, my husband and I managed to sneak in a last-minute escape to the city to enjoy a much-needed retreat at The Marylebone. Nestled in the hotel's super-trendy namesake neighbourhood, between the Georgian Welbeck Street and the part-pedestrianised Marylebone Lane, you're just a short walk from London's most famous Monopoly locations, from Bond Street to Mayfair.
