Celebrating World Earth Day 2020

Celebrating World Earth Day 2020: Image 1

There’s never been a more pertinent time to tackle climate change, and this year on April 22nd, countries across the globe will unite to celebrate World Earth Day 2020. First launched in 1970, the annual event focuses on a different theme each year, and 2020 is taking on the biggest challenge of all; climate action; a suitably momentous theme for the events 50th anniversary. Wherever we turn, we are faced with the reality of how climate change is affecting our planet, for both us and future generations. Whether it’s the amount of plastic we consume, the food we eat or the products we use, making small changes can make a big difference. Consequently, brands are under increasing pressure to prove their dedication to protecting the planet.

Founded in 1997, Green People have been proudly ‘planet-friendly’ since the very beginning. Known as the ‘sensitive skin experts’, Green People are pioneers in the organic beauty and skincare market. Brand founder Charlotte Vøhtz joined the Soil Association committee in 1999, with the first standards for organic products launched in 2002 Today, the brand’s eco-friendly range of beauty and grooming products are made with up to 99% naturally nourishing organic ingredients, keeping environmental impact to a minimum. Through organic certification, the soil is protected for future generations and the brand can be certain that ingredients are responsibly sourced through honest and ethical farmers; just one example of Green People’s earth friendly credentials.

MARINE FRIENDLY
Green People’s game-changing sun care range doesn’t use any chemicals that have been found to cause harm to the marine environment, such as the commonly used UV-filters, Oxybenzone and Octinoxate, or harmful zinc oxide. Instead, Green People choose to use non-toxic filters such as Titanium dioxide, which provide broad range UVA and UVB protection, whilst being environmentally friendly and ocean safe.

SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING
With ethical viability at the heart of its brand Green People’s sun care range has been recently re-launched in renewable sugar cane packaging. Farmed on sustainable land, this carbon-neutral raw material captures CO2 so efficiently that for every 1kg produced, over 3kgs of CO2 is removed from the air. This year, they will be extending this packaging to their other ranges as they work towards their pledge to move all packaging to a more renewable option by 2022.

CRUELTY FREE & VEGAN
Since the very beginning, Green People has been firmly against animal testing and refuse to sell products in countries where animal testing is obligatory. In addition, they are determined to help stop deforestation caused by Palm oil production. Thus any palm oil used in Green People products is sourced through agricultural schemes that protect local flora and fauna, and from countries where orangutans do not have natural habitats. Green People have always been 100% transparent about what goes into their products and are approved by PETA, the Vegan Society and the Vegetarian Society.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Green People are proud to partner with a number of charitable initiatives, donating thousands of pounds from sales and working closely with teams to help protect the future of our planet. A direct donation is made to The Marine Conservation Society with every sale of Green People’s Scent Free Sun Lotion and Organic Children Sun Lotion. The MCS is dedicated to the protection of our seas, shores and wildlife; Green People have donated over £70000 so far. Other partnerships include the Born Free Foundation, an educational initiative designed to educate and engage children in meaningful debates about key wildlife and environmental topics. Purchases of Green People’s Organic Young My Skin Goals skincare sets help towards supporting this educational programme. Finally, for each month of 2020, Green People will run a ‘Sustainable Shopping’ day, with the World Land Trust planting a tree for every order over £40 received on that day.

Green People products are available from Waitrose, Ocado, Whole Foods, Planet Organic, Revital and independent health retailers nationwide, as well as online at www.greenpeople.co.uk
